Fully shielded micro-coax connectors have emerged as an effective solution for maintaining signal integrity while minimizing electromagnetic interference (EMI) in space-constrained designs.

Unlike conventional fine-pitch board-to-board connectors, a micro-coax shielded connector combines individually shielded transmission lines with a 360-degree grounded connector interface. The continuous shielding significantly reduces crosstalk, radiated emissions and susceptibility to external noise, enabling reliable operation at frequencies that would challenge traditional interconnect systems.
The connector features a compact 0.4 mm contact pitch while supporting transmission speeds of up to 40 Gbps per lane using PAM3 signaling. This performance makes it suitable for the latest USB4 Gen4 and DisplayPort UHBR20 implementations, where insertion loss and impedance discontinuities directly impact channel performance.
Mechanical reliability is equally important in portable and high-vibration environments. The connector employs a robust locking cover that increases mating retention while protecting the contact interface during repeated insertion cycles. A minimum contact wiping length of approximately 0.65 mm ensures stable electrical contact by removing surface contamination during mating, reducing contact resistance and improving long-term reliability.
Another advantage of micro-coax technology is cable flexibility. ADR-Technology cable assemblies support various routing requirements while maintaining controlled impedance throughout the signal path. This enables compact packaging without sacrificing high-frequency performance.
Engineers increasingly specify fully shielded micro-coax connectors for medical imaging equipment, industrial automation, machine vision, aerospace electronics, drones, and communication systems where high-speed differential signaling must coexist with sensitive RF circuitry.
